An Irish Wake and Sick in Bed

July 13 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Irish community in 19th-century New Brunswick was an extension of society in Ireland. Their practices and customs followed them across the ocean and how they celebrated life was no exception. Tim Finnegan has tragically fallen from a tree and lost his life. With the death of their dear friend, the Killeens and Burks will mourn and host a celebration of life like no other.

Caring for the sick during the 19th-century happened primarily at home. Generations passed on medical information and knowledge to the next generation. Come and learn about common healing practices and medicines, including teas, tinctures, poultices, salves and syrups.
