Christmas by the Hearth

December 2, 2023 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

In December, Kings Landing offers the chance to travel back in time to rural, 19th century New Brunswick and experience a Victorian Era Christmas in one of Kings Landing’s historic homes. On December 2 & 9, the Gordon, Joslin, Hagerman and Jones homes will be hosting traditional Christmas dinners. You’re invited to take part!

Each home will be in full festive décor inspired by a Victorian Christmas carol. While you enjoy the company of family and friends, the family hostesses and dresser will be there to share a variety of 19th century Christmas traditions with you. Christmas dinner in one of the historic homes is sure to make the holiday’s history come alive for you.

Cost (purchase tickets on Eventbrite):

  • Christmas at the Gordon – (up to 4 guests) = $540
  • Christmas at the Joslin – Parlor (up to 6 guests) = $810
  • Christmas at the Hagerman – Dining room (up to 8 guests) = $1,080
  • Christmas at Jones –  Dining room (up to 6 guests) =$810

Menu: Your holiday dinner will be served family-style, on the table, starting with Cream of Turkey Soup and brown bread. The main course will consist of Roast Beef, Turkey, Herbed Stuffing, Potatoes, Vegetables and all of the traditional trimmings. For dessert, enjoy a tasting trio of gingerbread, mincemeat pie, and bakers’ choice with tea or coffee. Vegan options are available.

All prices include generous family-style meals, costume rentals, wagon transportation, taxes and gratuity. Prices do not include Eventbrite fees. Wine and beer are available for a fee in the “Add-ons” section.

Itinerary:

  • 5:00 p.m: Arrival at Kings Landing at the Welcome Centre
  • 5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m: Hot cider and details of your night at the Welcome Centre
  • 5:30: Wagon ride to your home for costuming and to join your hosts for an enjoyable evening filled with merriment
  • 7:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m: When you have ended your time at the home, a wagon brings you back to the Welcome Centre to return to the present

Attire: For Christmas by the Hearth, you’re invited to dress the part! To do this, please book a costume fitting with the Kings Landing Wardrobe Department at least 2 weeks before your dinner. Our seamstresses will select one of the Kings Landing costumes and alter it to your size. If you’re unable to attend a fitting in person, you can call and discuss your sizing needs with our wardrobe department. We’ll do our best to have an outfit ready for you – though fit cannot be guaranteed without a proper fitting! To arrange your costume, please contact Kelly Hill, Historical Costume & Craft Coordinator, at (506) 363-4967 or by email at kelly.hill@gnb.ca. Costumes are not mandatory.

Transportation: Each party will be escorted to their selected home by horse and wagon from the Welcome Centre to their homes, where they will dress for the event.

Facilities: Each home has been inspected and licensed in accordance with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. All homes have heat, water, and access to restrooms. The Joslin Farm has a modern restroom, along with the Hagerman house in their basement (stairs access only). Guests will need to step outside of the Gordon and Jones homes to be picked up by horse and wagon and taken to the facilities at the Welcome Centre.

Inclement weather: If inclement weather is expected on the day of your reservation, please call us at (506) 363-4950. Our voicemail will be updated with a cancellation message by 12:00 pm. If we do not cancel the dining experience, but you feel unsafe travelling, please call us at (506) 363-4950 to cancel your reservation. Cancellation fees are not charged for inclement weather.

Cancellations: Kings Landing Corporation requires a 72-hour cancellation notice for all themed dinners. If you do not provide notice within this time frame, your card will incur a 100% fee.
