Flax Processing Workshop

POSTPONED TO SEPTEMBER 24 DUE TO HURRICANE LEE.
Buy your ticket on Eventbrite!
If you have ever marvelled at the lovely crafts the folks at Kings Landing make, now you can learn them for yourself! Mrs. Joslin has expressed concern over the “endangered crafts” that few folks know these days. Our villagers are excited to share their knowledge of these crafts to ensure they are passed down to future generations.
Have you ever heard of retting, scutching, and hackling? Learn the meaning of these terms and see how flax is processed into linen fabric during this informative workshop. Students will follow the journey of the flax plant from field to loom and gain hands-on experience in each part of the process.
Workshops take place from 11am to 3pm with a half-hour lunch break; bring a bagged lunch or partake in offerings from the King’s Head Inn or Axe & Plough. Your ticket does not include admission to Kings Landing. Visitors must pay admission upon arrival. Season passholders benefit from a discounted rate. These workshops are designed for adults; participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Accessibility notes: Workshops take place at the Learning Centre, a modern facility with washrooms, water, and ramp access. The Learning Centre is approximately 200m from the Welcome Centre via unpaved road. Some workshops may include travel to other parts of Kings Landing; please indicate any accessibility concerns when purchasing your ticket.
