Elizabeth Secord Exhibit

Kings Landing has launched its latest travelling exhibit, “Elizabeth Secord – New Brunswick’s first female doctor.”
Going against society’s expectation of women, Elizabeth Smith Secord (1841-1916) went abroad to obtain her doctor’s license and returned to New Brunswick to set up her practice in Fredericton Junction, despite “bitter opposition” from male doctors in the province.
Visit the exhibit, which shares Secord’s story and medical artefacts from our collections, on the second floor of Government House in Fredericton until the beginning of May! Government House is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed March 29 and April 1).
