Open Studio Day with Sylvie Goguen & Stephanie Weirathmueller

September 27 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Two Artists in Residence will be hosting studio hours on September 27 from 10am to 2pm. Visit the Slipp House to meet the artists and view their projects in progress! Visitors are welcome to watch and chat. Bios on the artist below:
  • Observe Sylvie as she works on aluminum foil lithography, also known as “kitchen printing,” which uses supplies available in the kitchen.
  • Visit Stephanie as she works on hand-drawn and hand-stitched quilts—pieces that hold images of family and gestures of care: a hand over a heart, lips forming the words “I love you,” quiet scenes of embrace and rest. The slow, attentive pace invites you to witness how care—and even difficult emotions—become part of the creative process.

Meet the Artist in Residence: Sylvie Goguen

Originally from the small village of Shediac Bridge, in southeastern New Brunswick, Sylvie Goguen grew up and still lives today in this quiet corner in the heart of Acadia. She holds a certificate in graphic design from the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick – Dieppe (1996) and has successfully pursued a career as a graphic designer for over 30 years. In 2013, she wanted to explore new facets of her artistic voice, so she returned to school to discover the mediums of visual arts where she obtained, in 2025, her Bachelor of Visual Arts from the Université de Moncton with concentrations in painting and printmaking. Her recent graduation exhibition, entitled “Open Conversation,” paid tribute to her maternal grandfather, Joseph Poirier. This exhibition is on display at the Dieppe Arts and Culture Centre. In her artistic work, she places particular value on certain objects, whose sentimental connection connects her to past events or to a loved one.

Meet the Artist in Residence: Stephanie Weirathmueller
An artist from Fredericton, Stephanie uses drawing and written reflections to capture ordinary moments in portraits, landscapes, and interiors.
Living with ME/CFS, she treats her practice as a process of becoming—loosening self-critical habits and exploring slower, gentler ways of working. Through art-making she works to befriend herself and stay present with both tenderness and difficulty, noticing where joy and play arise and where they do not.
“During this residency I’m slowing down to work with Kings Landing—its objects, atmosphere, and remembering—through writing, drawing, video, and photography. I’m developing my own language of care while staying attentive to my energy; the patient search for moments of play is part of the process.”
Her goals include slowing down with traditional drawing methods and creating fabric paintings that she will sew into blankets, while offering workshops that embody slowness, gentle reflection, and connection.
